I don't know a lot about carb adjustment (but am learning fast, thanks to this great site), but my factory service manual says that the valves should be adjusted within specs BEFORE any carburetor adjustments.

Original airbox and carbs work good enough for me, maybe it is possible to extract more HP from my combination changing carbs and pipe, but I just don`t want an aggravation connected to this changes.
Bike is fast and bigger problem for me was updating front brakes and fork which were lacking badly compared to engine power.
My advice is - check valve clearances first, if everything is OK come back to original setup: carbs and airbox and start from there. If everything works - you do not need bigger carbs, maybe some extra power you could get by degreeing original cams. If not - go see your `friend` with dyno.

PS What exhaust do you have?
