winter is here, time to do that maintenance!

i just thought i'd remind everyone that lives in a cold climate (like me)
that now is the perfect time to grab a case of beer and head down to the garage for some tlc

i for one, will yank off that leaky valve cover and replace the cracked stator cover.

tell us a bit about the maintenance you will be doing over the winter...

        So far:

        valve shim adjustment
        new valve cover/breather cover gaskets
        bled the brakes
clean up seat pan and replace cover
replaced breather hose and airbox drain hose
fixed leak around the petcock o-ring
fixed leak on the brake fluid resevoir
        polished up all the chrome

The exhaust is original and has some deep surface rust on the
underside. I was thinking of cleaning this off, priming and
painting those areas. I want to keep the original exhaust but
I don't want the rust to penetrate any further.

            New progressives in the front

            Wishlist:
            Dyno Tuning of A/F mixture
            Seat reshaped and recovered

All of this will depend on money and time.

I decided to invest $1000 into the bike rather than going with a new bike. Should have a pretty awesome machine when I am done

                1. Buy GS1100E
                2. Reinstall centerstand
                3. Remove oil cooler (leaks at fittings)
                4. Install new front tire (torn between using the new Spitfire he has or buying a new Metzeler)
                5. Find lower seat hardware for second seat
                6. Progressive front suspension
                7. Consider rear supspension upgrade

New manifold boot O-rings, helicoil cam chain tensioner bolt that is stripped. Steering head bearings, hopefully Dyna ignition and new coils. Vetter improvements, and in the spring new tires and rear shocks. That's the plan anyway.

Put the Ebay sidecovers on so's they don't fly off.

                        Clean up electrical connections

                        Replace leaking fork seal.

                        New battery

Don't have the $$$$$$$ to do all I want. Home remodeling is taking priority to everything else.

Need a seatcover, paint job and to find the missing compression. Weather's nice enough to ride year 'round- makes it hard to take the bike off the road.

                          No winter here yet.
In fact we broke a record here the other day. This is the warmest winter I have seen ever. I have been riding my Guzzi all week.
The GS is in rebore mode at moment.
New rings , Pistons, cam chain, Tyres, some paint and a general tidy.
I bought it 3 years ago spent $3,000, will spend almost the same by the time I have finished this time. Worth every penny.
