1980 gs850 parts fit on a 1981 gs 850gl? HELP PLEASE
I own a 1981 GS 850gl and I often see parts that are for sale (that I need) for a 1980 gs 850.

Carbs should be the same, when you run into problems is with cosmetic
items because of the frame differences between a G & a GL

Yup, carb, engine and drivetrain stuff is all the same. Brakes are the same except, I think, the brake hoses. You shouldn't be using old brake hoses anyway.
Tach and speedo cables are different. I'm not sure if the instruments are different, but I think they are.
The frames, airboxes, forks, and rear wheel are different, along with all the obvious stuff like the tank, side covers, and seat.
The 16" rear wheel from a GL model can work on a G, but the G's 17" rear wheel would not fit on a GL. Got that?
The swingarm and driveshaft are the same -- the '79 - '81 driveshafts are all interchangable, but the later '82 and '83 driveshafts are a little different at the flange (early/late engines will interchange, but you have to use the correct driveshaft for the engine).
Some electrical details are different between G and GL, so compare part numbers.1983 GS850G, Cosmos Blue.
2005 KLR685, Aztec Pink - Turd II.3, the ReReReTurdening
2015 Yamaha FJ-09, Magma Red Power Corrupts...
