will a 1981 gs 750 engine bolt into a 1977 gs 750 frame? or can the cam bearing caps be used from the 1981 on the 1977?Tags: None

The motor will almost definitely fit, confirm with a tape measure.
The cam caps wont swap, an 81 is 16v a 77 is 8v

Re: engines
I have swapped an 81 16 valve 750 engine into a 79 750 8 valve frame.
The engine will physically fit, no problem. The bottom rear motor mount will line up and the mounts on the front of the engine will line up. You will need to fabricate mount plates for the upper rear motor mount and the two lower side mounts. I made mount plates from 3/16" stainless steel plate. You must swap the complete engine as parts are not interchangable between engines.
Also, the 8 valve engine has 26mm vm carbs and the 16 valve engine has 32 mm CV carbs. The 81 airbox will not fit the 77-79 frames. (unless you want to get into frame modification/welding) You will need to use the 77 airbox and enlarge the airbox boot openings to fit the 32 mm CV boots.
It will all go toegher, but it is a bit of work. :-)

I would rather sit on a pumpkin and have it all to myself than be crowded on a velvet cushion. H.D.T.
