    Electrex vs. ElectroSport

What's the story with these two companies? I remember reading here that Electrex got bought out. Is ElectroSport the new company name or is it a different company? Are the products the same or different? Is one better than the other?

    Thanks,
    Joe

All I know is that Electrex USA became Electrosport Industries. I don't think that anything has changed other than the name, as no announcement was made (to my knowledge) on their web site. The "About" section of Electrosport's web site at https://www.electrosport.com/electro...uncovered.html would seem to indicate that they have always been under the same management, and that this is just a name change. The founder, Ritzo Muntinga is a Dutchman, and has already established markets in the Netherlands and Germany. I suspect that he set up the UK operation as well.

I have always thought that the stators and R/R units were the same, except that the UK prices were much better. This was because:

a: They both originally used the Electrex name, and I assumed that the USA version was a distributor.
b: The part numbers are virtually the same, with the omission of zeros on the USA part number matching up with the zero-included UK version.
c: Both carry a one-year warranty, although this is less definitive.

I would also be interested to know if there is any difference in the products. Until I learn otherwise, I would assume not and would order from the UK location for the price break.

After the Electrex name change, I remember a few people posting about having problems with their R/R's. Previously, I dont remember anyone ever having a problem with them. Previous to the change, I was using Electrex, but last year when my 1150's R/R toasted in North Carolina at the rally, I switched to using a Ricks R/R. I have had zero problems with it. There was some talk about product quality going down after the takeover/name change, but I have no data to prove or disprove that.

I am using an Electrex stator, but it is one I bought from them 2 years before they changed ownership.

Fortunately, I can't compare an aftermarket replacement since I am one of the lucky ones still using the original stator and R/R.

Unlike some that have attributed their good fortune with stock R/Rs to increased air circulation from pods, I have the original airbox (K&N filter) with the cover removed and the bottom opened. The only increase in air circulation is to the filter, not the R/R.

I will say that I discovered the corrosion problem early on, and worked on it several times including battery grounding and a complete cleaning of a corroded fusebox. I attribute my own good fortune to cleaning things up and replacing batteries before bad connections and batteries had a chance to cause charging system failures. The last problem symptoms I had recently were fixed by rewiring the connections.

I'm expecting a burnout sometime soon. That's usually the case when you take credit for preventing something that commonly occurs.

            Earl,

Where did you get the Rick's R/R? Was the price comparable to the Electrex?

            Thanks,

Yeah, I have original items too. I have 33K on the bike and I'm planning on doing several trips this summer so I'm going to replace both as a preventative measure. This way I'll have spares as well.

              Thanks,

Rick's looks to be a little less pricy than Electrosport, ElectrexUK is cheaper still , but then add shipping and VAT and it probably adds up. I put a rr13 on my bike and it still works(knock on wood) 6 years later. [-o<

I don't know if it was related to the name change or not, but we struggled to get the Electrix units for a while and ended up switching over to Rick's. We've stayed with Rick's as the product is very good, availability is good, and if you do need any questions answered, Rick is very approachable.

Electrex UK is considerably less expensive than Electrosport. The 15% VAT is deducted for exports. The shipping is reasonable also. I checked prices while helping someone recently and the delivered price for the same stator was $166.00 from Electrosport and $104.40 from Elextrex UK.

I bought the Ricks R/R in Asheville at the Powersports shop. I think it was about $90. Yeah, cost is about the same for Electrex R/R's. I bought another Ricks R/R recently from cyclerecycle (crc2onlinecatalog) and their price was about the same also. I'm running dual R/R's on the 1150. Twice the cooling area and half the load on each R/R. :-)

As a plug for jeff.saunders at Z1 Enterprises, they have an excellent price of $67.50 plus $5.50 USPS Priority Mail for a total of $73.00 for a Rick's Suzuki R/R Replacement.

This is the best price I've seen yet for a new Suzuki R/R. Nice going, Jeff.

I work for a dealer, and the Electrix components are a few dollars more than Rick's pieces. Both are available from any dealer that has access to Parts Unlimited distributors. I recently purchased the Electrex components, and modified all the negitive ground routes, as my stator and R/R looked is very poor condition, and while I have already spent about $800 in my restoration, whats another $250? It's worth the solid piece of mind my charging system will be reliable IMO.

I checked the Electrex website and they say there were two different stators used:

There were two sizes fitted, one has diameter of 103mm (4") which is part number G2, and the other has a diameter of 93mm (approximately 3.5"), part number G1. Please identify which you need and we will confirm price including shipping. Please confirm your address.
