1982 850GL Electrical problem
The bike will start, run for about a minute and then the fuse blows.

There are any number of reasons for the fuse to blow, all of them related to an overloaded circuit, but the first thing I would do is ensure the battery was charged, then pull the connectors off the Regulator/Rectifier.
Do this with the ignition switch OFF.
The bike will still start and run, but cannot deliver a charge to the battery, so you will be running entirely on battery power.
If there is still a blown fuse then it will be necessary to check out the circuit itself. Connectors are the next thing to check. Dirty connectors are a common problem on these bikes, and the dirt causes resistance. Enough dirt/resistance in there will make the fuse quit. Loose connections cause arcing, and this can blow a fuse.
An obvious thing to do is look for loose wires that cause a short.Bertrand Russell: 'Men are born ignorant, not stupid. They are made stupid by education.'

I am not certain of the location on your bike, but the R/R is always located close to the battery, and probably very close to the fuse box as well.
You should have a solid plastic connector with a catch on it. Since all the wires are in the connector, they all disconnect at the same time.
If you should find that you later need to do a full stator/R/R check, note that the wires coming from the stator are usually of one colour, (yellow) and are interchangeable.Bertrand Russell: 'Men are born ignorant, not stupid. They are made stupid by education.'
