GS1000E - shocks and lifting up the back end!

I am restoring/customising an 1980 1000e. I now want to raise up the rear end to provide more clearance and better look. The shocks I have are standard 335mm.

How much more can I raise the back without causing problems with the chain and does anyone have suggestions about either changing the shock frame mounts or longer shocks??

Also, does anyone know a good frontend to go on the GS? The original is just a bit weak I feel?

The lower forks on the shock can easily be modified by welding longer ones on, check how much you can raise the swingarm without the chain fouling it with the shocks off.

I like that avatar photo Robin. What are the details on that photo?
