overcharging problem
I am going to look at an 83 gs1100esd that a guy is selling while I had him on the phone I asked him if the bike had any elecrical problems as they were of course known for that and he told me that if he rides for 3 days straight with quite a bit of riding that the battery gets frazzled now he says that he thinks it is overcharging as he says after those days the battery fluid level drops way down and he has to fill it up and recharge the battery I've had more than a couple of these bikes and I've seen stators go and I've seen bad wiring cause bad charging but I can't say I have ever heard of this one before any help or experiences with similar problems would be greatly appreciated.........thanks......markTags: None

I sounds like the regulator portion of the rectifier/ regulator has died. You would need to replace the r/r. It is probably charging at 14.2V to 15V all of the time. Ask him if he has seen an increase in bulbs going bad.

Yeah, that's a normal problem for overcharging. When going through Toronto this summer I was thinking to myself "That's a weird smell for polution". The next morning I found out that what I was smelling was my battery boiling off.
