    Slipping out of 2nd

So when I ripped my 77 gs750 apart this winter one of the things I wanted to address was when I am really on it it used to slip out of 2nd into neurtal, a very bad thing at fwo. I expected to see a worn shifter cam, but the groves look clean, what else could this be??
    Thanksa

The most likely thing is the engagement "dogs" on the gears are rounded off, causing the gear to be spit out. A visual inspection is all that is needed. If they are badly rounded off send the trans out and have all the gears undercut. Good used ones are an option if you can locate some....MRE in Florida does really good work .....Billy

Possibly a bent shift fork. if it's even slightly bent, the "dogs" aren't engaging completely.

For some tips on perhaps fixing your second-gear problems (which are probably worn 'dogs' on the gears), go to

and see how some the XS11 chaps manage it via the 'Black and Decker' method. Could be a goer.

              GS woes.

GS trannys are known for this issue. The second gear spit out under full load is pretty common. Dogs usually are to blame, anyone found a stronger than stock option, for a bolt in replacement???
