woopsie! help! wont crank over sans stator

so my bike has been in peices for the past 2 weeks and i wanted to run it so as to clean out hte carbs and the ingition doesn't work at all, doesnt even try to crank. its missing the stator but i hooked up the yellow wires directly to the battery and it has no oil in it. is there some kind of safety that would prevent it starting if its missing the stator or oil?

nm i got it to crank but now its not firing, its probably cuz the battery is too low . is it possible to bypass the stator and just connect directly to the rectifier?

Ice, I don't know of any reason why the lack of a stator would not allow it to fire off. If the stator goes bad, the motor will still run but the battery will not charge, that's all. If you have enough juice in the battery to turn the motor a little you should have enough juice to fire the plugs. Check to see if any of your connections are dirty or loose, make sure your kill button in not causing problems. Also check your plugs to insure that they are not fouled. If this is an older GS with points, you might want to look at them.

thank you hap. yea last week before i took out the stator it fired fine. im thinking it is the battery cuz its just stuff like this before when the battery didnt have a lot of charge.

If you just took the stator out, just put it back, this will remove all doubt. Can not imagine trying to crank it without oil, even if you don't let it start, PUT THE OIL IN FIRST !!!!!!

I just want to tell you I covet your CB1100F!!! I want a CB1100F and a GPz1100 to sit in my garage along side my GS1100E. A CBX would be nice also.

a weird thing happened, , i let the battery sit over night on the trickle charger and i hooked it up the bike and nothing electrical works on it now except for the nuetral light, not the horn, not the lights, not the blinkers, nothing

The CBX is a great bike, the differece between owning a CBX and a GS is that the CBX provides "owner value" and the GS provides "riding value", if you see what I mean.

Had a CBX 1979 for almost 10 years...

It really sounds like your battery is not up to par. If you get 12+ volts out of it, then it sounds like your ground and/or positive cables are not good. If your battery voltage is good, you can use those famous jumper cables to directly power the starter. Caution: do not try to use the starter without the stator cover installed (with or without the stator) because the transfer gear needs the cover for strength - the gear will likely crack the lower case gear mount as power is applied (you did remember to put the gear back in, right?). Also, don't even turn the motor over without oil in it. (please)
