    Gs 700 E Sprockets

    I had a minor oil leak from the left side of the bike (near the engine sprocket). I inspected and found that the oil seal around the clutch push rod is worn out. I have since ordered the parts to fix....however, my front sprocket looks worn...I think the orginal! I put had a chain put on at a shop 2 seasons ago, but I think I'm going to need sprockets soon. I asked shop to verify the sprockets were okay and they said they were....I have a feeling they weren't. I know I should do it all at once. Who makes good resonably priced sprockets? What is a good chain brand? I have a 530X114 or it could be a 530X112, anyone know for sure on the 1985 GS 700s? Also, do you need special tools for a clip style master link? I know you need a chain press tool for a riveted link, right? Any help would be great. I have little experience in chains. Thanks!!

    Sprocket Specialists are some pretty good people too, but they tend to deal in aluminum for their rear sprockets

      14/45 sprockets 530-114 chain
      EK or DID O-ring chains are ok and JT sprockets work for me.

      You will still need a press of sorts for the clip style to press on the side plate.
      Or hammer it on


      Oh..BTW... find another shop to deal with!

        I'lll second this. It is 114 chain I just counted mine. I was able to use the clip style and with a big enough pliers the side plate went on.

          Thanks everyone.....I thought it was 114....I guess I better save my bread for a new chain/sprocket combo. I don't take the bike to a shop anymore. I'm teaching myself how to do this stuff as I go. That way the ol' bike gets the TLC she deserves. It isn't new enough with fancy fuel injection for a shop to even look at it............

            I've had really good luck with RK chains as well, though that has been with 630 instead of 530. Personally, I would opt for a rivet type chain, I've had 3 clips come off, and one failed, cracking the engine case, luckily for me it only cracked it where the starter is, and didn't destroy the engine, a fraction of an inch more, and it would have been history. You'll need a 32mm for the sprocket nut.
