    1980 GS850 carb question - help

Does the pilot screw get screwed all the way down? (the one under the rubber plug in the bowl) Or, is there a "# of turns out" setting for it? I did not check it's position when I removed to clean my carbs. Thanks.

    Jet

If your talking about the little thing under the rubber plug in the float bowl? That not a pilot screw its a jet and yes it should be run all the way in.

You need to be sure that those jets are properly seated - I had one which was only about three quarter of a turn loose and that cylinder ran far too rich and fouled the sparkplug at idle.

An easy way to check is to mark the screwdriver shaft with a felt pen - flush with the top edge, when the jet is in place. Obviously, the mark should be at exactly the same level with all four jets when tightened.

If the thread in the carb is scuffed or damaged (which was my problem), it may seem like the jet is fully screwed in - when in fact it isnt !

Be careful not to over-tighten the jets though - it's easily done !!
