Hi it's me again, on the gs1150E buz. everyone that followed the last thread, is familiar with the problem that I am having, I thought may be it was the clutch, some suggested the carbs, and some other things, based on the suggestion of few and one in particular the suggestion was carbs not being synced, and may be the valves were very thight,(symptoms) getting very low gas mileage. So, I did this research, first I sniffed the crankcase oil, could not smell gasoline I dipped a flexible wire so it would go in the oil fill hole pulled out and sniffed again, did not smell gasoline, I lit the flexible wire which was dipped in the oil. (I figured If there is gas mixed with the oil it should ignite) it did not ignite. so I dont think there is gas in the crankcase. I took the airbox cover off Oila; the filter is wet with gasoline and smells, Like Earl mentioned, I guess my valves are out of adjustment so the gasoline from the tank instead of going th the engine block it is going to the airfilter, so I am looking forward to check the valve clearances and then sync the carbs.
while I am doing this any suggestion what should I look for to do? I came this far with the suggestion of you all. keep it going. Thank you

Your petcock diaphram is leaking gas (probably into the vacuum line) You need to rebuild or replace the petcock. The most sure way of eliminating a leaking petcock problem (my opinion) is to replace it with a manual Pingel petcock. Expensive, but I think worth it. The Pingel being manual (no vacuum line), you must remember to always turn it to off when shutting down the engine and remember to turn it on when you want to start the engine.
That is likely where all your gas is going. :-) I would still check valves and carb synch too.

Are there any situations that would cause fuel to be in the air box without the petcock being defective? My buddy had gas in his air box once, but he really didn't know what he was doing. The bike also only had 3000 miles on it. Could it be caused by operator error?

Hi Earl, I disconnected the gas tank, and removed from the bike with full of gas, I don't see any leaks, you think it happens when the vacuum is generated? so should I go and replace the petcock? or if it was defective, I should have noticed it leaking. What you say?

C'mon now, lets be serious. You asked what was wrong, I told you what was wrong and now we keep doing the what if? thing. If fuel is not seeping through the petcock, fuel cannot be anywhere regardless of what else may be wrong with the bike. All fuel has to pass through the petcock. If the petcock is off and fuel is going through it, it should be pretty obvious. If it is leaking, it is leaking all the time. The only difference is that when the bike is running, induction flow is through the carbs and into the engine, so you will not find gas building up in the air filter while the bike is running. The air flow is in the opposite direction then. This isnt a guess, a maybe, or a why dontcha try this. Replace the petcock, it is not optional.

Ahhhhh good! :-) :-) I figure the fuel that doesnt leak out will be enough to pay for the petcock in about 6 weeks. LOL

Pet cock

well between replacing the pet cock and hopefully finding out that the valves are out of agjustment; Ill adjust the valves, sync the carb, this will be happiness bought very cheap. Ill share it with you Earl. LOL. Thanks for putting up with me.
