    Can 1978 GS750 easily get a 1980 GS 1000 engine swapped in?

Hi. I'm about to buy these two bikes: 1978 gs750 and a 1980 GS1000. Are these engines easily interchangeable? I've heard that anything from 78-81 usually is and only requires a fabricated bottom mount.

Anyone know anything more about this?

    Thanks for your consideration

    swap info

Oh yeah, the gs1000 frame is busted so I'm hoping to swap the 1980 GS 1000 engine into the 1978 GS750 frame.

    Will it fit easily?

Yes I've done it. So has Scarlet Spyder.
Check out "Tips and Tricks: How to increase '78 GS750 HP in one easy step" for two viewpoints on the issue.

Also check out www.gs4.co.uk tech pages where I posted an article about my 7/11.

Its not too hard, but you'll need to make up mounts.

        Yea, Johnny

I've done it too. All you need is new motor mounts, I made mine out of aluminum plate available at any machine shop. Just make sure your sprockets line up. We drag race this bike and have never had a problem. Another advantage of the 750 frame is my whole bike with the modified gs1000 motor weighs just 376 lbs. There are pics on my website.
