Doing mine this weekend,and want to do best job possible.What cleaner? Brake fluid, kerosene,clean oil,gas...? And just bristle brush for all plates,or also 'light' emery scrub on steel plates?Thanks guys!!!

I can't exactly remember what it is called, Tri====, it was used in fire extinguishers a long time ago. Also the fumes kill about a zillion brain cells, hence why I can't remember the name. Emery cloth will break the glaze really well. -
Brake cleaner is what I always used.
I used a DA on the steels with some 80 grit.....Comment

I always used clean varsol or paint thinner, then dried them. Then just a soak overnight in clean engine oil before installation. Never failed for me.
Emery cloth would scuff the steels just fine.
