    GS650L Manual

Have been searching for a 1982 GS650L owner's manual...does anyone know of a scanned in version available anywhere or a PDF by chance? Just bought the bike and its my first bike..could really use it at this point. Thanks! I look forward to some serious time with this bike...here's a pic:

One more thing for now I guess. I just purchased the bike today and the oil is black. Until I can scare up a manual, does anyone with a 650L know how much 10w-40 it takes once I completely drain it? Thanks...kind of a rookie bike mechanic.

Nice bike! Welcome to the site. Your best bet may be E-bay for a used one or Amazon.com. I need mine:-D . Good Luck!

according to my 650 engine sitting out in my garage, it takes 2500 ml. It should be stamped right above your serial number.

3.4 quarts of oil. There is a secondary drain plug that needs to be removed further back. I changed mine recently with a K&N oil filter and the gasket that came with it was better than what was in there. I'm not sure I can explain where that plug is but a good amount of oil came out. Just to get started I suppose you could just drain the main plug and put in a couple quarts using the site glass to let you know when it's full. At least you could ride a bit without feeling you're hurting the engine. BTW if your bike's like mine, don't overfill or underfill the oil they don't like it.

            Owners manual

Believe it or not, I just bought a Gs650Gl last november. The gentlemen was the original owner and gave me the owners manual with it. I'd be happy to "copy" it for anyone who needs it. (but first I have to find it) Just let me know.

The second drain plug is located near the shift lever and the left footpeg. Get another o-ring for the oil filter cover if your doing the filter. A FRAM CH6000 is cheaper that Suzuki and comes with the o-ring.

Do not tighten the oil drain plug in the oil pan too much, they can strip easily. The book calls for only 7 lbs of torque.

After you change the oil put the bike on the centerstand and start it. Let the bike warm up and then when it is idling good and slow put it in first gear for about a minute or so. Then shut it down and check the oil level about 15 minutes later. I have found the bike needs a little more to top it off after this because of the secondary drive.

                Thank You

Thanks for the info on the oil change. Went with the Fram CH6000 with the decent o-ring. Everything checks out after the change. I appreciate the responses. Still looking for the original owner's manual. If anyone knows of one in electronic form that would be great or someone willing to scan it in. Ebay and Amazon don't have the original one on right now for sale.

                    Got the Manual

I finally found someone willing to sell me an origianl Suzuki '82 GS650L (or GL as I now know) manual. When it arrives I will scan it into PDF form so future GS650 owner's won't have to jump through the hoops I did. When it is scanned, I will post the link. Thanks for everyone's help, this board is a great resource.

Thanks for your efforts, Dude... I've been on this board about 3 years, and in that entire time I have NOT found an original owners manual on eBay for my GS650L. I don't think they have GS650Ls on that motorbooks site either, but I'll recheck.

                            Congrats on the find!

I have an old clymers that has the COLOR wiring diagrams. The new one's are black and white. The factory manual is also in black and white ( I have one of those also)

I have two clymers as well so I don't need this one. PM me your address and and it's yours for free. The color wiring diagrams will be a big help putting it together. I don't pkan to diassaemble mine anytime soon so I can do without them.
