    Stuck Float bowl! Gs750L

Hi! I just went out to have a look at why my float was overfilling & caused me a small fire a while back, & I can't get the bottom(bowl) off, after removing all 4 screws! It looks like somebody may have had problems w/it due to the way it looks after somebody had beat it w/something pretty extensively! Right where it flushes w/the top of the carb! I can see where they kept hitting w/something. It looks like it's still okay, but I can not get it from the top part of the carb! I've tried to tap it w/the end of a screwdriver & wiggle it, to no avail! I tried a razor blade, & very small knife too! It acts like there's another screw somewhere, because it will not even budge any period! The book says there are only 4 screws, so I guess I've removed them all. Unless somebody has J & B'd it! Then I'm in trouble! Can somebody let me know if I am doing something wrong? I am trying not to dis-mantle all those carbs, to possibly go through them. But putting it off for another reason. I haven't tried making my sync tool yet, & besides, before the fire, I ran so very well, including idling good! Besides the bad petcock I replaced. I still have to re-dip the tank too! I have the acetone & am waiting to send off for the POR-15, due to the last guy that owned this bike, must'a sealed it wrong. 'Cause it is peeling w/the old stuff! I bet that's probably what got stuck in the bowl to start with! So I am trying to see if he bottom of the bowl's dirty. But can not get it off! Any help will be appreciated. Thanks Ron.

There are only 4 screws, so either the gasket has really hardened or they had problems with leaking and glued it on. You might try soaking it in carb cleaner for a while and see if that helps loosen it. Once you've tried everything you can think of, you can either try to use it as is (and assume/hope there's nothing wrong inside), or start hitting it harder and harder with a bigger and bigger hammer until something gives....

    Good luck...

      Bowl!

HA! That will work, I guess! I finally got all my parts in today! So now I was thinking, couldn't I remove that flat brass looking bowl screw & squirt some carb cleaner into that whole & maybe get what dirty whatever that may be in there, out? Would that do any good? That is, if I can't get the bowl off? And it really is stuck too! I can pry it w/a big screwdriver & it moves all the carbs w/each push! So it's really stuck! So I was wondering if that would do any good at all? I'm not left w/many choices, am I?

        Carb body

Sounds like someone had a sticky float and beat the hell out of the bowl cover. If you can get into it try and buy another carb body and swap innards. Once these are warped they are toast. Plus it's always great to have backup carb parts.

I don't think it would hurt anything and it would help get some of the crud out, but if that's the one that overflowed and started a fire, I'd have to agree with Chef1366 - get a spare set and replace it. If you keep you eye out you should be able to find a spare set for not too much.

            Stuck float bowl!

Thanks for the idea! But do I have to get all 4 carbs? Do they ever sell one at a time? Or is that just wishful thinking? A lot cheaper, I bet too! It was raining today, so didn't get a chance to try it again! I've so much to do, that just seems way down the road from where I'm at! But thanks for the info! I sure be on the look out!

I believe you have a '79 so it has the VM style carbs. If so, these might work... swap your jets, etc. You'll have to cut off the stuck bowl to get to them out of the old one...
