    GS1100E battery light

The battery light on GS1100E's indicate low electrolite, not low charging rate. Have your mechanic add water.

that web link only covers bikes with a single R/R my 78 750 has the rectifer on the side of batt box while the reg is at the bottom, theres gotta be a differnt test.

ok...here is the deal as I understand it...IF the stator fries...it does so because it overheats. The reason for overheating can be not enough oil in the bike...or a *@%^$*@%^$*@%^$*@%^$ty reg/rec that sends too much current to the stator, expecting it to attenuate it , as heat, to the engine oil. The stator fails only because the insulation on it's windings melts. It is not subject to mechanical wear in the milages that 99.9% of us achieve on our bikes. Therefore: if a stator fails...it is because the insulation has burned...(low oil or bad rectifier or bad component to start with) OR the rectifier is sending it more current to attenuate than it can handle. This later is common with the GS, as I understand it.
I recommend the electres replacement. I hear it works really really well.
