Semi OT:what sort of relay would flash our blinkers off?

so my blinker lights are always off, unless I turn the signal on. is there a relay that I could use that would leave them on and flash them off when I turn??

I'm actually asking for a friend who is a railroad enthusiast, he needs to rig his running lights on a pusher car so that they will be on in general, but will flash when they get the signal from the brakes?

I just thought it sounded like what I've wanted to do all along just to have more lights behind me when I ride at night...??

    any thoughts?

    thanks

There are two types of relays, one normally open and one normally closed that could be rigged to make this work. If the normally closed was used for the brakes to function full time then when the brake was activated the relay would turn the light off. Use the normally open relay to activate the signals when the brake is applied. Might need some diodes as well so power only flows one way. Someone else will probably have a better idea.

aftermarket relays will come set up to be used NO or NC. just change the terminals.

that looks promising, but will it work on our suzi's??

also, I wonder what happens if you just swap the wires on what came with our bikes??

and I guess you need red running lights? I wonder how big a fine it is in Colorado... ';-)

Just a thought, but what about running dual-filament bulbs? Low watt wired to a keyed-on circuit, high watt to the blinker. I converted my Shadow to that setup when I put aftermarket signals on it, THEN found out the hard way that you're not supposed to have constant-on yellow lights on the rear. One fine and $8 for replacement lenses later, the local PD was happy and I had learned yet another lesson in traffic law.
