    Speedzster,

I have a 1980 GS 550L parts bike with a complete set of carbs, that are the same as the stock carbs on your bike.

I offer you the whole rack of carbs for $40, plus shipping (approx. $10-15), which would bring the total to about $50-55.

The carb bodies are rusty on the outside, and the bike has not run in over ten years, but the carbs are complete and unmolested, and the bike was in running condition when it was put into storage.

If you are interested, send me a Private Message or email (just click on my bgk member name above).

This is your best bet. Buy these carbs. My co-worker brought his 850 to the stealer and they charged him $500 just to put a new valve cover gaket on! I used this site and bought stuff off ebay to rebuild the carbs, boots, etc. Best way to go is what you are doing ask the people here. They are EXPERTS that like to fix these bikes themselves with no BS like the stealer. Stealers are only good for warranty work on new bikes.

you can replace just that carb body from any salvage yard. if you clean them, you'd strip it down to just the body anyway...?

if you really needed, could try to look in my local guys pile?

            Thank you....

You guys are so AWESOME!!! I like the "stealer"! Right on the mark
I am going to take bgk up on his offer....and...yes.. I will re-build them MYSELF. I have a manual, and if I run across any problems, I'll run a search...or just ask I am mechanically inclined, and I'd rather do it myself...good learning experience full circle.... Thanks for all the offers, and helpful hints...I can now breathe a sigh of relief...
I am going to the "stealer" on Wednesday and just get my bike, no questions asked....Pay-back is a bitch.....

Good for you!!!! The guys here can help you out at any stage you might need, so we gotcha covered. You dont need no flipping dealer jocks. LOL
If need be, I would make a ride to a salvage yard and dig out a carb for you. LOL

Use the macro setting on your camera for close up stuff.
You could drill a small hole beside the pin, tap it and put a small screw with a larger washer on it.:?

It's pointless to own these bikes without being the chief mechanic yourself. Spend all the money you would on labor for tools. With the right tools, anyone can do anything on these bikes. Have someone else weld and balance cranks and bore cylinders, but eveything else should be self service.

Now that I got that out of my system, I have had good luck using JB Weld on the float posts, but of someone has a carb body available, that would be best.
