    gs1000g air cleaner assembly

i've aquired this 1981 model, and am working on getting it running again.
Unfortuneately i have very little knowledge, but am eagerly learning. So I have several questions. One being about the air cleaner.

In the assembly,,, the oiled element fits fairly loose in the box. It screws in tight, but there's a gap (1/4" or so) above the element, where it seems to me that it should fit tightly. I'm concerned with unfiltered air getting into the carb. Should there be a gasket at the top of the oval shaped element casing to seal it?
    thanks

yes there is suspose to be a gasket on top, you can use weather stripping self stick foam to seal it up.

    mine was the same way

      ahhh, thanks for the info!

one more question on the same topic...

The 4 hoses from the carb that feed into the air filter box. Do those just just slip into the holes in the cleaner box loosly? or should there be an air tight connection there to? I'm worried about the same issue of unfiltered air into the carb.

The carb boots that go between the carb and air box should be pretty tight. You can still get these from Suzuki.
