Geoff, are they like tan or gray?? Or smell like gas???
My auto repair book ?? said that tan/grey is perfect.
I pulled mine out while doing the coils and they are tan.

Must be a 83 GS1100E thing
Oh yeah? I've got plugs that look just like that, and they're out of a 1980 GS 1000G, my current ride.
Oh yeah, and another set that look like that out of a 1979 GS1000L, a back-up ride.
Oh yeah, and yet another set that look like that out of a 1983 GS 850G, yet another back-up ride.
Geez ... I guess I'm the one bragging now!!!
PS: I couldn't have plugs that look like that without the valuable help from guys like Keith Krause, Earle Fornes, Brian Wringer, etc. and many others on the GSR.

Oh geez... you guys...
Actually, I never think my bike is perfect. I think I have a problem. The tank comes off probably 3-5 times a week even though it runs quite well. I'm gonna ask some of you guys to give it a rip this summer and see what you think, but I've determined that I am sick. Or bored. Dunno...
If anyone has followed my "Carbon fouling problem" thread, I did a bunch of stuff putting the bike back to stock. The only issue I had is a little slight burble or hesitation just off the line. I recently posted in that thread that the hesitation is gone, but it still is slightly there.
The plugs look to me like they are a little glazed. Color has a little reddish hue. Those plugs have about 400 miles on them, and they have almost no carbon on the firing end or insulator. Only some black carbon on the inside of the thread casing. I can still smell a fairly strong fuel smell at idle. Not as bad as it's been, but still. And the hesitation is still present. Maybe it's a lean problem?
When you guys choke your bike, after it's warm, what does it do? Do the revs go smoothly up, or does it sputter and run rough?Currently bikeless
