Rectifier swapping can you do it?

I have A GS550L 1981 with a bad rectifier. Part number 32800-47120 (32800-47020) the newer replacement number is in (). I found someone who has a brand new never hooked up rectifier part number 32800-49x50 (32800-49310) Its surposably goes on a 1981 850. The wires are the same color and same connectors. Will it work or am I looking for trouble? I can get it for $20.00. Any feed back welcome. Thank you for reading and thinking for me.

Not an expert on RR's, but I think you probably would be ok. The price is right, I think the after market units are around $130. I think I would try it. Ray

If anyone has the electrical specs for the bikes, should be pretty simple to check out if they list the charging circuit details.
