Do float bowl gaskets need gasket sealer?

I have 1980 GS750E that I have started to clean the carbs on. This is my first carb cleaning on this bike. The float bowl gaskets have a white sealer of some kind on them. When I put on new gaskets, do I need to seal them?

I have the exact bike, no, you do not need any sealer. It will just make for frustration when you try to take them off again. To be honest the fuel will never stay up high enough in the bowl to seep through. So no, no sealer.

Thanks for the quick reply. I just bought my bike and I love it. I am considering a back sprocket with less teeth to get less rpm's. Do you know if they make one with about 38 to 39 teeth?

You can put any size sprocket you want as long as it fits.

I've had my carb bowls off 4 times using the same gasket (which is fairly new). As long as you are on a fresh gasket, it will reseal many times. If you have a crusty old bowl gasket, replace them.
