    2005 GS500 Carbs on 1980 GS450

Just bought a 1980 GS450, 15000 miles, been sitting for 4+ years. Got it home, and the carbs were frozen solid. I found a set of GS500 Carbs, 34mm Mikuni and bolted them on, bike idles and starts nicely, but runs pretty rich (as expected) any ideas on what would be the first changes to make to the jets, needle, mixture screw, etc. and what part numbers? I really can't wait to get this thing on the road. My first bike was a 2001 GS500.

OR if anyone has a good CHEAP set of stock carbs, I will trade or purchase.

    Thanks!

I have a nice set of 81 450 carbs you might be interested in. Bike was running great before it was wrecked three weeks ago. Please let me know.

It would probably be significantly easier to clean the 450 carbs than to get the 500 carbs to work at all RPM ranges. You could drive yourself crazy with trial-and-error jet replacement. If you've got a whole lot of main jets of different sizes, I'd first try those. If not, just clean the 450 carbs.
