ALB80, I will probably get flamed for this, but I don't change my oil and filter for 5,000 miles. I have done this in my cars and my bikes ever since I got them.

I have not seen an official Suzuki owner's manual for my 650 or my 850, but my Clymer manual suggests 4,000 mile intervals. My '84 Kawasaki Voyager 1300 suggests 3,000 miles and my 2000 GoldWing suggests 8,000. Yes, I know they are water cooled and probably easier on oil temperature, but I definitely would not sweat about making a 2500 mile trip, even if I did a 2000 interval like you are. Oil does much better if you get it warm and keep it warm, rather than hot/cold, hot/cold of short-trip city riding.
