DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Just curious as to how warm the Stator cover should be after riding for ten minutes or so, mine gets to the point that you cannot hold your hand there for more then three seconds, is this normal?? I have a 1980 GS750E.
Thanks Scott :? :? :?:

They get pretty hot because they do have motor oil circulating through them.

I've got soft hands. Three seconds would seem like a long time. It's really hot.

If you need instructions on how to remove that cover........!!

Re: Stator Cover, how warm should it be?

I just came back from a nightime ride on my GS750 with outside temps around 50 deg F. The stator cover is way too hot to do more than quickly touch. NORMAL :-)

Actually Dan, it is "duck soup" simple. All you have to do is read the wiring diagram. :-) :-)

ROTFLMAO    I just can't get the image of 10" C clamps and Jumper cables out of my head

I popped mine right off. Just some magnetizing force as near as I can tell. Or did I get lucky?

Steve

:-) :-) I think I'll just stick with my primitive rubber mallet tapping technique for freeing covers. :-)

I knew there would be some snickering somewhere. So, I finally found it. :) Atleast I'm getting used to the honking and head shaking I get on a regular basis while out on the snow. 8)

Steve

I seem to remember something about an industrial strength welding machine and wrapping the leads around the stator case three times while mumbling some secret incantations. Then 'pop' the cover comes off. No, wait. I think it was hooking it up to a golf batteries using 37.5 wraps of 18 gauge wire and... :D

Anyway, mine gets hot too.

Terry

Sorry, Ice. I couldn't resist.

My stator cover normally gets as hot as the "stator cover electrical pop off trick?.

Seriously, it gets hot (not possible to touch)

I read it 3 times on diferent days before it sunk in.
Im surprised that no one commented about not being able to check diodeds because the switch that reverses the leads on the meter was broken.
