heres where i am...1979 gs750
stock engine no modifications
dyna s ignition with 3 ohm coils and auto style wires and caps
k&n oval pods
straght drag pipes mated to stock header times four
heres my symptoms
it runs great, starts and idles awesome, likes alittle choke at first but then shes nice and crisp with no bogging, theres good acceleration as long as i dont whack it open all the way. if at any time i give it wide open throttle then it just chokes and falls on its face but if i ease into it i can coax it to the rev limiter. but its not the scary acceleration i remember before i choped it up. i know everyone says keep the stock air box but i had to lose it. along with the zero restriction drag pipes im pumping some serious air but the plugs dont look bad but then again im not shutting the engine off at wide open throttle either.
heres whats going on
i had the carbs rebuilt and bench synched at the local shop and the guy seemed very informative and like he knew what he was doing. he did set all the slides at the exact distance off the bottom...ive read here and in my manual that the inner two are set different. because of heat. he also said those kind didnt get synched by vacume?$#@%
when he rebuilt the carbs with the kein kit he said we should keep the stock mains in the carbs to start and go from there.
i knew that would be too lean but ok we gotta start somewhere.
the stock mains were 100
i went to 102...not much different....105...not much different....i have 110 but almost feel like skipping them and going straight to 120's to get closer to what im hearing guys say on this forum. hes not charging me for the jets...bring back a couple sets and trade for a couple different sizes kinda thing. it runs good but i dont want to hurt it by ignoring what may be a lean issue. i timed the bike staticly. oh and another guy said leave the needle clip position alone since were at sea level here.
