What is the last letter of the model number on the headstock?

For example, it will say something like:

GS1000GLX (for an L model)

or

GS1000GX

So what's that last letter?

I don't remember the list off the top of my head, but I know, for example, that "D" is 1983.

50-50 chance of being correct. The 1000G was marketed in 80 and 81 only. Could be a GS1000GT or GLT if 1980, or GS1000GX or GLX if 81.

82 was the first year of the 1100G.
