If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Don't use it. The "30" viscosity is too low and not per Suzuki specs (10W-40). It is probably the "energy conserving" type that is specifically not recommended for motorcycles due to concerns about clutch slippage.

Hijacking thread! Striaght 40 weight??

Hijacking thread! Striaght 40 weight??

Has anyone seen and used the straight 40 weight oil they are selling now. What is everyones thoughs on this stuff? I know I run straight 30 weight in my splash lube 16 hp single cyl. air cooled garden tractor. I have heard that stright weight is better to run in AIR COOLED engines since they ALL WAYS have SOME burn off and striaght weight oil without viscosity modifiers burns off more cleanly?

Straight weight oils were available when our bikes were built. A multigrade is thinner (10 wt) when the engine is cold, so it flows better. As the engine warms up it thickens, so it's not too thin. The multigrades are also detergent oils which are usually not recommended for engines without oil filters. Suzuki recommends multigrade 10W-40. That's good enought for me.

OK how about this question, summer in New England 20W-50 or 15W-40?? Hearing some top end noise but when I have ran 20W-50 I have had clutch drag. Alkso will 20W-50 reduce MPG??

I would have no problem with 20W-50 during the summer months when the temps are 70 and above. It would be too heavy for cold weather but just fine when it's hot.

Thanks I will switch next change. I am just trying to figure out how long to leave this 15W-40 fleet oil in there 1,000 mile and it is pretty dark.

I prefer 20W-50 synthetic or semi-synthetic motorcycle oil (any decent brand). They do make a noticeable difference in engine noise and shift quality in my bike.

However, any decent brand of 10W-40 and 15W-40 will also work just fine. You won't hurt your engine, but you might notice shifting gets a little clunky with the slightly lighter oil. Or you might not -- the differences are pretty subtle.

Don't worry that the oil looks dirty through the sight glass after 1,000 miles. It's fine -- just change it every 2,000.

This helped me currently.

I have 83 gs 1100 gk.

I just put 20w 50 in last change. Fine when warm. It does not like to crank on cool mornings. Over the lunch period when warmer, 1st or second crank it goes. Once it starts once, good for the rest of the day.

hey and for you guys like me that don't know alot about bikes, use the search by Title feature under search. It is really a great feature of the site.:-D

Diesel motors share a lot of same oil needs as air cooled motorcycles. 15w-40 is a popular viscosity for these oils which is about right for a GS in the summer months. I just picked up a gallon of Rotella 5W-40 at Walmart for my next oil change but seriously considered going with the regular Rotella stuff for 1/2 the cost.

I'm a big fan of the 10W-40 Castrol Syntec synthetic motor oil. Smooth shifting, and a noticable improvement in power, engine heat, and noise when compared to conventional oil. And the Syntec is cheaper than Mobil 1.
