    Rock,

I had the exact problem with my 78 GS750. I called V&H on the phone and they said it's due to the "quality of thickness of their chrome plating" and that I should just grind down the header side so the muffler would slip on. I was skeptical about taking the angle grinder to my new $300 pipe, but I did so anyway and got the job done. I only took it down enough where I could wiggle the muffler on (with much duress) and I ended up giving it a few taps with a dead blow mallet and a 2x4 on the tailpipe side.
