Petcock issue

I had the same problem after I put a rebuild kit in mine. I would suggest a new petcock. If there is no vacuum from the vacuum tube, then the gas would be off all the time, not on.

petcock problem too
I didn't have a clue either. I took the petcock off the tank (GS850GL)to sort it out as mine too was leaking petrol out all the time. I cleaned it, checked the rubber gromit/ring on the stopper and every thing seemed to be ok. I then did a test and it still leaked. Luckily this is a new bike to me and I still have my '83 katana, so I had a look at the petcock on her and both nossles (fuel and vacuum point to the rear. On the 850 the previous owner had the vacuum nossle pointed to the front. I took it off and put it on the same way as the katana and now it works just fine.
Hope this helps

Issue Resolved
Hello All!
Thank you for all your help with this petcock thing. Finally got it figured. When i took off the petcock, i had lost the spring that went by the diaphragm, so i just replaced it with a spring that would fit in there. Because the strength of the new spring was different from the original it had been leaking gas, i tried a different spring and it started working just fine.
Thanks again for taking the time.
:-D
