    LED Running Lights

    I just built two 7-LED blue striplights for the bike, using a few simple parts and a piece of PVC strip, with a simple SCR control circuit.

    Plans will be documented over the weekend and posted here free of charge \\/ for those interested in building something similar. A pic and more details are in the “Appearance Mods” section.

    Also, I'm working on an SCR headlight inhibit circuit (No relay.... no moving parts) that keeps the headlight low-beam off during engine startup and triggers the headlight low-beam to latch "on" by blipping the horn or initiating a turn signal or something of the sort. With these small batteries on-board we need all the current we can get to the ignitor and starter motor and we can make available more than five extra amperes if the low-beam is off. Once working, a plan will also be offered as a freeby!

    Why not just a MOSFET triggered by the starter switch? Mine works great. The only difference is mine kills the supply voltage to the high and low beam lamps.

      I think LED's are an excellent idea for bikes! In particular, for the brake light. High visibility, long life, can't beat it. I'll be looking for your pictures8-) .

        all the lights on the back of my bike are LED's including the trick auxilary tail/brake lights inside in the turn signals that light up red, but are over ridden by the yellow turn LED's when the turn signals are used.

        I also have a led cluster in the socket for the European front park light (in the headlight)

        I use a mini relay to interupt the ground/earth for the headlight when the starter button is pushed.

        my headlight high and low beam is controlled by a relay that defaults to low beam, the stock headlight switch just energizes the relay, power to the headlight relay comes from the master power relay.

        remove the master relay and the bike is disabled, a thief can punch my ignition switch and it still wont start!

          Oh yes MOSFETs are great, I just happen to have power SCRs in the junk box.

            I know how that is! I never throw away a component. My whole shop is a "junk box". :-)
