    Cylinder head gasket

hi, i recently removed the carburators from my bike to replace the floats... upon attempting reassembly, i noticed the spacers that lay up against the cylinder heads were not bored-out completely round, but had this a-symetrical notch-like thing inside... this spacer may be screwed in to have that notch either on the top or on the bottom.. and nothing clues you in as to which way it should go... HELP?

i checked out the schematic on bikebandit's website.. it's all drawn by hand so its hard to distinguish accuracy vs. artistic license.. but its lookin like the notch orients on the bottom..
