I have put 15k on the bike in three years. The front brakes were geting a bit spongy so I decided to flush the system again. WOW the fliud in the rez was not that bad but the fluid in the calipers was RUSTY and DARK!! How long should brake fluid last in these systems?? MUCH better brake feel now!

You may possibly have a leaky bleeder screw in your caliper, letting the fluid absorb moisture at an accelerated rate. Also would absorb air at an accelerated rate, explaining the spongy feeling. Either get new bleeder screws (aftermarket) or wrap the threads of your current ones with some teflon tape (I've never had good results with this method, but some have).Last edited by Guest; 07-14-2006, 01:39 PM.

It depends on your mileage and climate really, my daily ride-to-work bike here in wet old Holland gets new brake fluid every year and the feel is noticable improved after.
