I got everything set and all is well, but am curious. Is it normal for the valves to be too tight? I expected to see them a little loose. They were around .0025 - .003. I have a feeling I'm the first to check them in 30,000mi. I know that too tight can burn up valves, but how do you know if this has occured? Compression check?

As the valves and seats wear it is common for the clearance to get smaller. That's why the initial service Suzuki called for at 600 miles is so important. It's not until rocker arms and cams begin to wear that the clearances open up.

How often are you supposed to check the clearances? During the riding season I put on 500mi a week.

Every 4,000 miles is what Suzuki calls for with threaded type adjusters.
