Reserve on petcock -- gravity or vacuum?

When the vacuum doesn't work on a petcock, and your forced to operate on prime 'til the petcock is replaced or repaired, have you also lost the reserve function of the petcock? Or, does it use gravity to feed the carbs?

Reserve also operates by vacuum. I don't know if the prime position is the same as the reserve. I'm sure somebody here has that answer for you.

Run taps into the upper portion of the gas tank and reserve into the lower. They both need vacuum to operate. Prime doesn't need vacuum(my 80 model does but it is a pos)

Prime goes all the way to the bottom.

        How do i know?

Out of gas? No problem, just stop every quarter mile. Put the bike on prime, and lean. Wait about 10 seconds for the carbs top fill up, take off down the road like nothing ever happened. Next quarter mile, repeat. This can continue for 4 or 5 miles.
