    GS550ES Starter Replacement?

I have a 1985 GS550ES that is in almost new condition. The starter has gone bad and been taken loose of the engine block.

Can anybody tell me how to get this thing out from under the carbs. I am assuming that I must drop the float bowl on the nearest carb or the cam chain tensioner must come off. Really do not want to mess with that tensioner.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks

The cam chain tensioner must come off, as do the oil return lines to/from the head. I will scan and post the procedure from the Suzuki shop manual for you in a bit.

I had to do this a couple months ago. No big deal, just take your time.

        Thank You!!!

I really did not want to mess with the tensioner, but seems pretty easy.

        :-D Much appreciated!!!

          10mm bolts

On my 82 1100 the starter is held in with 10mm bolts that also have phillips screw heads. I took off the carbs, and still had a hard time using a screw driver. (I thought they were screws)

If you are not taking out carbs, use a socket on the bolts if it is the same as mine.

The starter swap is pretty easy.
