83 GS 1100 GK Choke Cable

Hello fellow GS'rs how are you all?

I have an 83 gs 1100 gk and my choke cable broke.

The wanted $60.00 to install while the cable was only $11.00.

This is my question. If I follow the cable down to where it lands will I need anything special to put the new cable on. :?

Yup, you can see from my posting that I never did this before.

    Thanks for your help.

Nope, it is really pretty simple. shouldnt take you no more than 30 minutes if you have never done it before.

Just go for it Brian. Get yourself a manual for the bike and just work through it. You'll be able to "see" the mechanics of it once you get going on it. Just examine the set up in the front of the carb when you take the cable off. I have the same bike and changed mine. Even after paying for the manual you'll be saving cash from that $60 charge and you'll feel better too. Get to know your bike.
Any pics of your 83 GK?

        Thanks for the encouragement

I don't have pictures yet, but I will take one.

Been a great bike. I like the idea of getting to know your bike.
That is why I am taking it on.

Will be a lot easier if you take tank off.
You didnt ask, but: To take tank off, need to take seat off. Just a couple bolts hold backend of tank, then can lift up on back end of tank (prop up with something), disconnect two connectors for gas gauge and two hoses on petcock, pull tank back and away.

            Gast tank off

So glad you posted. That was one of my big questions. I planned on pulling the gas tank off, but did not know what was all connecting it.

            This helps. :-D

            Thanks

              The choke cable is in.
