    May I elaborate on the center stand technique?

    Hold the left handgrip with your left hand, grab the frame or seat grab rail with your right hand, push the centerstand down somewhat with your right foot and rock the bike a bit to make sure it's really centered and both legs of the stand are hitting the ground. Now step onto the centerstand with your body weight and pull straight up a bit on the frame with your right hand. It'll pop right up.

      My 1100 takes an additional step. I have to roll the rear wheel up on to a 2X4 first.

        Uralla is a little satelite town outside Armidale, midway between Sydney & Brisbane,approx 100 miles inland from Coffs Harbour.
        Your need to come out to be cleaned properly, & they can never be to clean8-[

          I was going to suggest this also. The technique for getting the bike on the center stand is that while you are on the left side of the bike, you put your left foot on the center-stand "peg" and while holding onto the handle just below the seat, you push down with your foot while pulling up on the handle. Push more with your foot. By getting a 2x4 under the rear tire, you are making it so that you don't have to work quite so hard with your foot. It takes practice. But once you figure out the technique, it's very easy.

          The exhaust popping typically comes from carbs being out of sync. The synching is done by adjusting the throttle line between the carb bank. Best solution for carb synchronization is to purchase a Clymer's or Hayne's manual (better yet would be the Suzuki service manual) and a manometer.

          A real quick and easy solution to end the popping on deccel would be to pull in the clutch and coast with the engine at idle. But typically the popping is not necessarily a good thing.

            cheers guys thanks for the help. I have tried to it it up the stand but must be an Irish weakling. I will keep at it.

            Now here is some good news as i said it poured all day yearerday and Iwas away on the bike I got soaked but made it home OK.

            Now for days before the bike was running sluggishly and sounding under a bit of a strain. However when I set off today it was like a fairy had come and worked on it over night. It started with no spluttering and then sounded smooth. Better still when I took off it feel perfect and accelerated and pulled away so well I had to control myself. I did about 80 ks today and its great. I am pretty sure it must have been a blockage in he fuel feed somewhere, because now its so responsive....No idea really but it going great.

              I'm a little late on this, but I have to say, you like those sounds??? ;-)

              I always wince and feel slightly embarrassed that my bike isn't running 100% perfectly. But then again I'm pretty anal. ;-)

              That's at least for the popping. I do like the smooth rolling grumble a well-tuned engine makes when engine braking.

                Yes. I DO like those sounds. Of course, I've always been a half bubble or so off center. I wonder if the sound of the exhaust during decelleration is really a good indicator of the proper tuning of an engine?

                    Just keep trying. I'm 150 lbs and I can do it no problem. I wrestled with it at first. Almost dropped the bike a couple of times. Crushed my left toe (sandle ). I'm a stubborn **** though.

                    Left hand on handle bar. Right on grab bar. Right foot on lever. balance the bike so that the center sand is touching the ground at both points (maximizes mechanical advantage by allowing you to pull straight up and keeps the bike from falling over). Put all your weight on the lever with your foot and pull up/push down smoothly. USE YOUR LEG; it has more power than both your arms.

                      BTW a "popping" from the exhaust, more often indicates an exhaust leak at one of the joints.

                        That's possible in my case. The gaskets haven't been changed since I've owned the bike. The header has been on and off quite a few times.

                          mine came a 4 into1 exhaust which i removed and took off as much rust as possible(its back, i didnt do avery good job, i am thinking of getting it sandblasted and black heat piant). the thing is there were no gaskets between the 4 pipes and the engine am i missing something???

                            Yes you are. there should be a gasket in the exhaust port.

                                OEM is still available from Suzuki, or other parts sites. I believe they are Aluminum. I bought four earlier this year and replaced them as soon as I pulled the exhaust.
