When i took the side cover off to get to the stator, there was aprox 1 quart of oil in there. I am not sure yet where it is comming from but,i'm assuming that it is from the crank seal.Unless there is some other place it could be coming from ?If it is the crank seal, how much work am i looking at to fix it?

It is normal to have oil come from there. It is what 'cools' the stator. Drain the oil from the bike before you pull the cover.

This may be a bit late, but if you put the bike on the centrestand, you will get only a couple of ounces of oil when removing the stator cover.
You will always get some, but it is nothing to be concerned about and is perfectly normal.A take-away:
IF YOU TAKE AWAY S FROM SIX YOU HAVE NINE

I actually "lay" my bike gently over against a solid chair or stool with a towel over it to prevent scratching the bike and to keep my oil spillage to a minimum. Normally it's less than 5 or 6 drops of oil.
So you are good to go!
