You may try screwing it in the whole way and then try to chase the threads a bit with a bottom tap (make 100% sure your using the right threads or you will screw up your carb body!!!!). Blow it out really good with air when done and then soak it with a good penetrating spray. Work it slowly. Never use enough force to screw up the brass. Out and in back and forth until it comes out. It takes some finesse but you will get it.

I was successful using a cordless with a longish squared flat bit. I put the carb body in a woodvice and applied downward force on the drill while gently squeezing the trigger. One nice thing about the PorterCable cordless is that it will go into "impact" mode when it reaches its max torque setting both forward and reverse. You just want to loosen it like this then use a hand screw driver to take it out. You don't want to gouge the inside threads with the cordless bit.

Thats were the problem is the owner before me must have tried to adjust it and u can see were he tore up the threads with a screw driver that was to big.

i was also wondering are gs 550 carbs the same as gs650 carbs?

I'm pretty sure the BS carbs are interchangeable (different jetting but same body) but I don't know about the older models. Try posting in the parts-wanted forum. Maybe someone has a partial rack they have broken up and can sell you a body. I had a similar problem with my 550 and got a #2 carb body from a forum member for small money. Keep in mind it has to be a body from same position in the rack.

That is exactly why I gave you the tip I did. It doesn't just get the screw out, it fixes the dern problem.
