    '79 1000 carb tubes

    Hi there.
I am trying to reinstall my carbs but I have three tubes that I'm not sure what they're for. I've got the one larger tube that goes to the fuel tank and then I have three other smaller tubes that I have no idea what they're fore. It took me a while to get the gaskets I needed and now I can't remember where these tubes go. These tubes are connected between each carb.

Can someone tell me what to do with these please.

Man, what I could do with a setup like that.

    On a more serious note,

One of the tubes will be the vacuum line for the gas petcock. You should be able to tell because the end of the tube will be stretched out (expanded to a larger diameter) from the petcock nipple, plus it comes from a different part of the carb body than the others. The other two are probably just breathers, route them to the rear/underside of the bike as far as they will reach. Someone else should confirm my guess as to the last two, I don't have that machine.

They don't connect the carbs together, the only tube that connects carbs together is the gas feed.

      ok... Thanks for the reply.

The middle tube does have a slightly stretched out end and it happens to be the middle tube so I have connected it to the tank. This tube comes out between the two middle carbs. The other two tubes that don't have stretched out ends I will route when I can get the bike started. These two tubes come out from the exact same location as the middle tube however they are from between the two end carbs and the middles and not between the middles. Example. C= carb and T=tube. CTCTCTC. The middle tube is the one attached to the fuel tank and it's also much shorter than the two outside tubes. Seems to fit just right.

Also, I have a similar long tube coming from the tank sending unit. What is that for?

Thanks again for all your help.

Hope i did help. The petcock tube should not be coming from exactly the same fitting on the carb as the others, since it is a vacuum line, that would mean that the other two would be sucking air all the time, and that is not right.

        I suggest:

        1. Waiting for someone more familiar with your bike to confirm or correct my suggestions.

        2. When you get it buttoned back up test start it (assuming it DOES start - if you have the petcock vacuum line wrong it won't unless you put the petcock on prime) carefully & check to be sure the other two lines are not pulling vacuum.

Don't know about the line on the sending unit. Another reason to wait for a more experienced wrench to respond. It probably won't be long.

The center of those three gets hooked to your petcock. The outer two are vented to atmosphere. Just run them back and down your engine. If you have pods/pipe/jet kit mods, leave the tubes off.

That tube is just a drain. Route it back with the other ones.
