    1979 850 cyl. 1 backfires, black plug

I was wondering if anyone had a tip on why my 850 is backfiring and missing bad on the number one cylinder? (far left one if sitting on bike).that plug is black with carbon, the other three look normal.

Start simple and work towards more complex. First check the Spark plug boot and spark on a new plug. Is it oil or unburnt fuel on the plug? Wet and black is usually oil and dry with deposits is gasoline. Check fuel line for kinks. Remove any external fuel filters if any. Tap on the float bowl of the troubled cylinders carb and see if you can unstick a possible stuck float. Spray WD40 on the intake boot and see if your idle dives. There are so many different issues it could be without a little more info.
