    GS300L timing advance question

    hello to all,
    i got a question about the GS300L non-mechanical timing advance.
    how does work?
    and are there a way to check the timing?
    i have searched for a manual with no luck and cannot afford a $60 manual right now.
    i believe mine is not working correct.
    the engine runs fine at a stedy rpm , but accelerate and it stumbles as if it misses or the advance is not advancing.
    the bike is dead stock and has not been titled for 6 years.
    the last owner only rode it a few times for 2 years.
    the barbs are clean as i just tore them down and cleaned everything following the carb series on this site.
    any help will be greatly appreciated.

    A timing light will tell you if.when it is advancing.

      timing advance

      i might be able to check the timing at the pickup coil.
      i don't know anywhere else to check it.
      it has no slots in the pickup coil plate for adjustments.

        The timing on your bike (and all other factory electronic ignition GS's) is non adjustable. Consequently, there are no timing marks and a timing light will not tell you anything other than that the spark plugs are firing. Which, you already know if the bike is running. LOL

          Scott,
          I have a 85' GS300L and after spending hundreds of $$$ having the carbs cleaned and tuned yada yada yada I have come to the conclusion that my ignition box was going. Do a search of the forums using my name and read some of the threads I started. If your issues are similar, you most likely need to toss the OEM ignition box and pickups and retrofit a Dyna S aftermarket ignition in its place.
