Blinkers work, but no signal in the dash

The Bike is a 1982 GS1100G. It has full Vetter package. IT has running lights in the fairing and lights across the trunk in back.

I have checked bulbs and find 1157's (I have not checked every bulb)

The blinkers work just fine. They do not self cancel and the light in the dash does not come on. I swapped out the self cancelling unit and found no change.

I have researched this problem with previous owners and going back two owners before me...no one has seen the light in the dash come on or the blinkers self cancel.

This is a nice and quite tidy 1982. Wiring is clean and has been professionally maintained (only god knows what that means)

    I am looking for ideas.

There should be two wires coming from your speed sensor in the speedo. Those need to get hooked up behind the headlight bucket. The dash light not working is probably unrelated.. just need a new bulb. If the gauges have been replaced with a speedo that does not have the speed sensor in it, then they will not auto cancel.

I'll check that out when I get home this evening. As the bike has the fairing and no real headlight bucket. I am assuming this will be found in that tidy bag of wires between the bike and the fairing.

I am a skeptic about the bulb beinbg out in the dash but I will keep an open mind.

I have wondered id the abundance of running lights in the reaer, tail light, 2 blinkers and 4 lights in the trunk, contirbute to my dilema.

The two wires I'm talking about should be blue with purple stripe and black with purple stripe. See if they are connected. Since it sounds like everything is working properly with the exception of the auto cancel, I think you probably just have a burnt out bulb in the dash, but of course I could be wrong.

I ran down to the parking lot over lunch to take a look. The two wires I found looked to be grey and white with a black stripe. (light not so good). The seemd securely fixed into a connector. I will follow this line of reasoning this eveing when I have both more light and time.

I checked out the wires and they look tidy and slick as can be. I then went to the wiring inside the fairing. There is a lot in there and it is all tied off and capped off.

Due to the long standing issue with this feature of the bike I am inclined to believe it is some detail of that wiring. It is not something I want to jump into when I want to take the bike out tommorrow. I will wait for cold weather. I do just fine the way it is it just isn't perfect.

Thanks for thinking on it with me
