    Shorter front brake line

Because my hose is cracked and I have installed Bikemaster Euro bars, I am in need of a shorter front brake line, from the lever to the brake hose joint, for my 78 GS 1000. I need about an 18 inch overall length. I would love to just upgrade to two stainless lines, but it is cost prohibitive right now. Any suggestions?

    brake line

Try a brake line from an 80 GS1000S, should be the same fittings as your bike. I used a throttle cable and clutch cable from this model on my 80 850G with superbike bars. All of the parts can be found at bike bandit. Hope this helps.

Don't know if it would be cheaper than Bill's advice, but a decent hydraulic shop should have the means to make one for you.

How do you find hydraulic shops?
I replaced the bars on my KZ with the same (it fell into an 8 foot ditch with me astride it), and I like the bars (the old one was too wide) but my line is too long also.

When I checked the prices at BikeBandit for replacement brake lines, it is almost as much as SS lines, if you shop around a bit. For hydraulic lines at a local shop, just look in the yellow pages.

              Amazing

I have tried four shops in town, NONE will make lines, Rubber or stainless. Amazing. I am going to bite the bullet and send my lines off to Paragon today. Still trying to decide about going to the two line setup on the front lever.

So you can send them to Paragon and they will shorten them?

                  New lines

Paragon will duplicate them in stainless, and make one line shorter per my specs.

All new stainless lines will hopefully make a 30 year old system a little bit nicer and safer.

You will probably be surprised at the improvement stainless lines makes. I had to adjust my front brake light switch after switching to stainless lines because the lever no longer travelled far enough to actuate the switch.

                    Thanks,
