    Coil location

Where exactly are the two coils on my 1982 GS850L?

Please see previous post under ('82 GS850L Stalling problem)

    Thanks,

    Underneath your fuel tank.

stock coils are under your tank, attached to the frame with 2 nuts each...they are a tan color

Anyone know if stock OEM coils are still available? Will call all our preferred suppliers on Monday morning anyway. Do you think the symptoms I discussed in my previous thread indiacte one or both coils dead or dying? As I previously stated, pulling plugs 2 and 4 killed bike immediately. Pulling 1 & 3 just idled rough. If coils go to 1&4, and 2&3 respectively, would this most likely indicate both coils are failing, rather than something else in the ignition system like stators or rectifiers I read so much about?
        Thanks a lot.......

Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction. I'll definitely call them once I diagnose if its really the coils or not. Other question is my bike is an '82 GS850L. Parts lists show different part numbers for coils for '82 to '83, depending if you have a model "Z" or model "D". Mine is just a GS850L. How do I know if I have the "Z" or "D" model?
            Thanks,
            Larry

Thanks, also found a "Z" on the frame next to the serial number.

If it is the coils, I would recommend moving up to the Dynas for the small difference in price.
