    Dumb, dumb, fuel petcock question

Ok, in my zeal to rebuild the fuel petcock (which was leaking) I got my petcock rebuild kit from oldbikebarn.com (good service and good price!) and took the old petcock off and took it apart. Stupid me completely neglected to take a good look at the thing before I took it apart and now I can't remember or figure out if the diaphragm goes on the outside (i.e., towards the selector switch) or inside (i.e., towards the bike). I can't find a diagram of this thing anywhere and for some reason it's not completely obvious just looking at it which side of the petcock this diaphragm goes on!

    UGGH!

    Any help?

get on www.bikebandit.com and look up the part, they have good exploded views of most every part.

        Even dumber...

Of course you'd want to know what kind of bike it is...what a ridiculous week i'm having....

        It's a 77 GS750.

I want to bikebandit.com and looked up the part but, typically, the one piece of information I actually needed wasn't there.

They did show a nice exploded view of the fuel petcock however it was only the "Front" view (or the side facing 'away' from the bike). The diaphragm is physically mounted on the side facing towards the bike and that view, of course, is not there, nor does bikebandit actually sell the diaphragm...ugh.

Seems to me, when I did mine (78 gs750), i had the same problem, however upon closer inspection, if i remember right, it will only go together one way (I learned this by trial and error). But then I managed to screw up the assembly in such a way as to mix up my prime/reserve direction (still works though, just gotta remeber to switch the other way).

The location of the vacume tube should help. Also, there is a small hole in the diaphragm that needs to line up with another small hole in the metal. Assemble it, test it, put it on the tank, test it.
