E rim on L model
I'm putting an 82 GS1100E rear rim on my 80 1100L. (Came with a front rim and has a brand new tire.) The E has a 17" tire and the L has a 16". The E has a 42 tooth sprocket and the L has a 40 tooth. The 42 tooth I have is garbage and the 40 tooth is good. Any suggestions on which one I should use? (I'll buy a new one if need be) Also I don't have the spacer that runs on the sprocket bearings and wheel bearings for the E rim. Are the E and L spacer the same?1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.

I put the 40 tooth sprocket on the 17" rim and put it on my bike. The sprocket lines up but the rotor looks a little right of center of the caliper but it works. There is some extra space on the nut side of the axle between the caliper spacer and swingarm. Can I fill this space with washers? Am I in danger of pushing the inner caliper piston out?1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.

Got the rim to work. Went for a long ride through the Sierre Nevadas and all is well. Used my stock 40 tooth sprocket and got 44 mph. Didn't like the drag on the clutch to get it going and slower off the line. Going to order a 42 tooth sprocket. But sure enjoyed the gas mileage. (I averaged 30 mph with stock 16" rim and 40 tooth sprocket) Thanks RJ for the new tire and rim!1983 GS 1100E w/ 1230 kit, .340 lift Web Cams, Ape heavy duty valve springs, 83 1100 head with 1.5mm oversized SS intake valves, 1150 crank, Vance and Hines 1150 SuperHub, Star Racing high volume oil pump gears, 36mm carebs Dynojet stage 3 jet kit, Posplayr's SSPB, Progressive rear shocks and fork springs, Dyna 2000, Dynatek green coils and Vance & Hines 4-1 exhaust.
